United States Artists (USA) is pleased to announce the 37 new USA Fellows for 2015, including Blues Hall of Fame inductee and four-time Blues Music Award winner Joe Louis Walker. Each artist or collaborative will receive an award to support their practice and professional development, opening up exciting creative possibilities through the transformative power of unrestricted financial support.
USA honors innovative, accomplished artists at all stages of their careers, who are nominated by their peers and field experts for the quality, imagination, and enduring potential of their work in the following disciplines: Architecture & Design, Crafts, Dance, Literature, Media, Music, Theater & Performance, Traditional Arts, and Visual Arts. USA’s mission is to put artists first.
JLW plans to use the grant, in great part, to assist in acquiring musical instruments, lessons, and all forms of media for young people who are excited to learn but may not have the means necessary to be opened up to the world of musical creativity. With great appreciation for successful models like the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz, who’s ability to honor its present and past masters and make the jazz aesthetic available and comprehensible in concert halls and classrooms around the world, JLW hopes to help young artists find their musical path. Whether it be in a dorm hall at a local college campus or a high school in St. Croix, music can and will thrive as it continues to be a vital part of our children’s education.
On behalf of Joe Louis Walker, thank you to USA and the many tireless artists who keep this creative spirit alive and well. Please take a moment to get acquainted with all of the impressive talent awarded this year’s United States Artists Fellowship!
